Spring Dog Care Tips

During the spring months, everything comes anew again and is awakening. Your dog is going to enjoy this awakening and is going to be very curious. They are going to get into just about everything and chase every new animal that is awakening from the winter months. Your dog is going to need some special care and attention from you in these spring months in order to keep them safe. Read on for some care tips to keep your dog safe this spring.

Keep Them On A Leash

Keep your dog on a leash this spring, as they are going to want to wander off or chase after things and could easily get lost. Make sure your dog is always on a leash or is always in a fenced-in area and is monitored by someone. Keep watch over your dog to be sure they don't get lost. If your dog does get away, make sure they have a dog tag with your name and address on it, as well as a phone number to get in touch with you in the event your dog is lost.

Watch What Your Dog Gets Into

Your dog may be curious enough that they eat something they shouldn't. They may eat berries off of a tree or eat something that they shouldn't that may be toxic for them. If your dog does ingest something toxic, make sure you take note of what they ate and report it to the veterinarian so your dog can get the help they need and are treated properly. If you do have berries or other wild plants growing in your yard, try to keep your dog away from them to prevent them from ingesting the plants.

Dog Proof Your Yard

You should also keep your dog safe from hazards in your yard, such as a swimming pool or other things such as pesticide, anti-freeze or other things you have stored in your yard or in your garage. Keep your dog safe from these hazards. Also, be sure your fence is secure so your dog doesn't get out of the yard without you knowing.

Keep Your Dog Safe From Pests

Pests are going to be abundant this time of year, such as fleas and ticks. Keep your dog safe this spring by getting your dog on a flea and tick preventative to protect them against these pests that can be harmful to your dog.

If you have a dog, you need to take care of them year-round. During the spring months, your dog is going to need some extra care. Talk to your veterinarian about other things you can do to care for your dog during the spring months.
